David Falcon-Grey
started this project having made furniture for many years and needed a new challenge.
The plans came from an American company called Glen-L and they are a copy of an original Chris Craft boat reimagined by
their in-house designer Ken Hankinson.
Final design details were added by David Falcon-Grey.
The boat took six years to build (although D F-G spends half of every year out of the UK).
Brief description
Grey Falcon is a 19 foot wooden 'runabout'.
The construction is marine ply and Sapele mahogany with maple stripes, maple cabin and Zebrano to the dash and electrical console.
All has been joined using West Systems epoxy resin products.
Fitted with a 4.3 litre Mercruiser Vortec engine.
Power is fed through a 1-1 Borg Warner Velvet drive gearbox
The fuel system starts at the purpose built 120 litre stainless steel petrol tank.
The fuel Pump is an Edelbrock matched to the 4 barrel Edelbrock carburettor.
There is an electrically operated fuel cut-off switch next to the driver.
The deck has been kept simple and free from clutter for aesthetic reasons.
The cleats are all 'hidden' and rise up to be used.
There is lighting in the forward stowage area, the engine bay and subtle lighting to the cabin area.
There is a pop-up navigation light to the fore-deck and a white light to the aft section.
There is a sound system operated by an app with USB connection.
There are two bilge pumps, one manual and one automatic.
There are two fire extinguishers in the rear seat lockers.
Behind the rear seat cushion on the port side there is a port through which a fire extinguisher can be set off.
There are three fenders with 'socks', a Danforth anchor with chain and rode.
There are three mooring lines and a long tow line, all braided.
